Why Colgate?

I started this thread to ask the reasons why people will be going to Colgate. I have read many criticisms of Colgate mostly regarding weather, location, as well as diversity. However, my reasons for applying are different than many others I have read. I am going for a few reasons. I want a white Christmas, a small liberal arts school, a place for me to join a competitive debate team, a school with a strong study abroad program, and of course a solid football team. My questions to everyone is mostly for those that have been accepeted or those who have Colgate as their first choice. What is the single reason, or few reasons, everyone plans to attend next year?

I loved the campus when I visited, and the weather doesn't bother me (I live several hours north of Hamilton, NY). I also wanted a smaller liberal arts college, since my graduating high school class has thirty kids in it, I didn't want too much of a culture shock. Lastly, I really liked the atmosphere and what I've heard about the people who go there. They all seem very smart, but more laid back than kids from comprable schools. I don't know though, that's just my impression.

i really think the question for me was "why not colgate?" from the second i drove on to campus i got that feeling that some say they get- the feeling when you know from the second you get on campus that it is the place you want to spend the next four years of your life. for me- i had many reasons for making colgate my first choice.. in my opinion colgate was perfect because it has a close knit community with lots of school spirit. the partiot league has a lot of spirit and more athletes are able to participate as opposed to a large state school with strict cut offs or a less involved d3 school. i think its location is its greatest asset.. it keeps over 90 something% of students on campus which contributes to to a great social life, not to mention a stunning campus. i also feel that college is one of the only times in my life that i would want to live in relative isolation and colgate definitely offers that. in addition, its a great size and has great course offerings for a school of its size and i think the whole mini-study abroad program really brings the classes to another level and allows you to go for a few weeks so you don't have to miss out on so much- over 85% of all students participate in study abroad during their time at colgate and i think that is an important aspect of any college education. i just go on forever about everything i loved about colgate. unfortunately... i will not be going there this fall. but if i could i would go there in a heartbeat.
