I received a letter from Colgate today, I already got in with early decision but they said that more than 9,300 people applied. This years first speaker will be Ben Stein too.

assuming 9300 apps, that would represent a 6% growth from last year.

for comparison, so others reported:
Vanderbilt 30%
Chicago 20%
Harvard 18%
Amherst 17%
Yale 17%
Georgetown 16%
Dartmouth 14%
Northwestern 14%
Richmond 13%
Princeton 12%
Rice 11%
Swarthmore 11%
Williams 11%
RPI 10%
Brown 8%
Cornell 8%
JHU 7%
Middlebury 7%
MIT 7%
Will & Mary 6%
Duke 5%
Columbia 4%
Virginia 4%
Stanford 4%
NYU 0% ?
Penn 0%

thanks for the correction vercingetorix ....general note that the numbers I posted above were from a variety of sources, some verifiable some not & some interim count.....here's a thread on the running commentary of apps for classes of '12: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/...ceton-etc.html

also keep in mind that if the Colgate count exceeds 9300, the percentage will likewise creep up.....last year's app total was 8759; source: Colgate: Profile of Class of 2011

Actually guys, I got an e-mail from the Dean of Admissions (he's my BFF ) and he said that they're up to just over 9,400 applications and are nearly done with it. Hang on!

Word on the street is that the number is much closer to 12% increase for Colgate...

Colgate's yield has been pretty consistent over the past couple years, even with the increase in applications, so such an increase should make for an interesting situation come this April!

^Yeah, it's not like the number of college bound seniors has gone up 10+% in the last year; students can still only go to one school.

Evaluating apps and making final decisions. Then the Dean's going to spend the next 3 weeks handwriting every accepted letter with a note...
