Jesus christ... this was unexpected.
Rejected with 1370 SAT, Eagle Scout, 3.9 GPA, Out of-state (Oregon), 2-year varsity letterman.
But somehow I got into University of Rochester?

Liam. . . .I have a 1360 SAT, 30 ACT,Valedictorian (4.0), Eagle Scout, Student Council Pres, Varsity Tennis, Independent Researcher, Church group leader, assis. editor for newspaper, vice president for spanish honor society, and secretary for honor society. . . . .and those are just this years activities.
Yet, I was waitlisted.
I was supprised, but I got into U of Rochester and Cornell. . . . . .so it doesn't really matter!
What is Colgate looking for?? I was well above average in every stat they have. . . . and my recommendations and essay were great. . . .
Also, one of my best friends got waitlisted with a 1440ish SAT, ranks 3rd in the class, 2 sport athlete, and president of Honor Society, who was also Waitlisted.
With a less that 3% accepted from the waitlist it is as good as a rejection.

I have heard Colgate is looking at financial need in their decisions. My son is 1440, great EC's, 4 year football, track wrestling and got waitlisted. We need big time financial aid. Some ex colgate insiders are claiming that colgate is taking more kids that can pay.
Their loss, Vassar's gain.

Radar,
I don't think that Colgate looks at the financial need.
I need a lot of aid and got in.
I am not a sports person...in fact, I don't play any sports.
Suggestion: maybe your son was waitlisted b/c Colgate is trying to tone down its "jockness" - just a theory
Congrats on acceptance to Vassar.

In very small print, Colgate states that they are not "need blind" and that financial need can be used when considering the merits of the applicant.
It does not mean that you are disqualified by a large aid requirement, they just left the door open to consider it before they give away more money than they have budgeted.

I got a large amount of aid from Colgate (something around 27,000). I dont think they used aid in their admission process at all. Honestly i dont know what they are looking for because the ppl who are getting rejected have way better stats than I do.

I could completely see that theory. I am an alumni who made good grades, my dad is a huge donor to Colgate, presidents club, very involved alumni. A few years ago I would have been in no question, but I think now Colgate is trying to get away from its frat boy jock reputation. Colgate as you know it will no longer exist a few years from now, its sad
