I am a Colgate alum. A senior (math and econ majors) contacted me a little while about getting a job. I spoke with with her for an hour, got her an interview at my bank. I am waiting for her to tell me the outcome. I wouldn't have recommended her if I didn't think Colgate would have prepared her well in the work place - critical and analytical thinking.

My husband and myself enjoyed our four years at Colgate. You couldn't find a more beautiful campus. I learned so much more at Colgate than just the academic. I am sure Vanderbilt is a great school, but choose Colgate.

Vanderbilt is warmer, and has a larger feel due to the Grad and professional schools as well as the city of Nashville just outside the enclave. There's a lot more to do in and around Nashville. The campus is an arboretum, but to me, the mostly red brick buildings are less attractive than Colgate. The new dorm system for Freshman seems very impressive though. Vandy also has nationally ranked sports teams in basketball and football.

Colgate is smaller, more intimate and in my view, much prettier than Vandy, in a traditional, Northeastern way, but that's a personal opinion. Keep in mind that it's in the middle of nowhere, with little shopping and a tiny town. Although that doesn't in the slightest bother students there who find plenty to do, and become very close. A very active healthy outgoing school and NCAA Div I but the Patriot League isn't the same as Vandy's competiton.

Colgate has incredible job placement facilities for internships and after graduation with a very loyal helpful alumni network. If you come from the South and or plan to stay there, Vandy may well have more pull in employment. But for NY or anywhere else, Colgate will have much more clout and opportunities.

Frats are big at both.
