ED response

Do they let you know after exactly 4 weeks or as they read your application they send responses to different people?

Also if I'm an international applicant, applying with other kids from my country, will my application be compared with that of the people in my country? Something like "let the best one win"?

ED1 letters are all sent out on the same date. ED2 has a rolling response period.

Andreeab,

I talked with the Dean of Admission, Gary Ross, and he said the following: International students are compared against other international students. If Colgate has 5 superb applicants from Country X and 1 not so superb applicant from Country Y Colgate will take the students from Country X and not from Y. (this is almost a direct quote as I talked to him 2 minutes ago).

Colgate's process is very wholistic, so you can't just say it's "let the best one win". There are at least two admission officers who will read your application; one is an office split (the admission officers just split up all the applications and read their portion) and then a regional officer who is an expert on your region. Both of these readers read your entire application.

All ED decisions are sent out at the same time, and they are over-nighted. So I'm not sure where you're from (from studying in Botswana I know overnight can take 2-3 days) but you shouldn't be waiting an extra month.

Best of luck!

The "four weeks response" is only for ED II, which has a deadline of Jan. 15th like regular decision - ED II applicants get their response 4 weeks after declaring their application ED II.

If you applied to ED I (deadline Nov. 15th), regardless of when you submitted your application before the deadline, the decision will be mailed on Dec. 14th and overnighted to arrive on Dec. 15th in the US, though international applicants may have to wait a few more days.

So if you're asking about it now, you probably applied ED I, and should get your response within a few days after Dec. 15th; "four weeks" has nothing to do with it.
