Are they Really that STRICT?!?

I did a little research on Colgate and I found out that they are really strict about greek life and parties.
I heard Freshmen arent allowed at frat parties and they require caterers and stamps/ID checks and all this bunch of useless stuff.
Is it really like that up at Colgate? Does this put a damper on the freshman social experience for those who like to party?

From what my Colgate frat S says--freshman definitely get in to frat parties. No problem. They want the guys for potential members and gals are always welcome.

If you attend a party at Colgate, or any school, please be responsible and sensible.

No! Freshmen do get in parties! But like any other school, you sometimes gotta know the brothers in order to get in parties that aren't widely publicized.

Colgate does take Greek life very seriously and it means it. We had a terrible accident several years ago involved 4 people, 3 were killed, and one is in jail for drinking and driving and murder. It was related to alochol from a frat party so... needless to say, we still feel the pain and are doing what we can to keep this from happening again. We have a very strong alumni support for Greek life so everyone has to make compromises in order to keep Greek life on campus. But apparently, it's really all much better this way.

Absolutely not!!
The party scene, even for freshmen boys, is definitely thriving. Anything you've heard about ids/wristbands/caterers are just for registered events, if a frat brings a big DJ or artist to campus. These events have security checking ids for those who want to drink but anyone can get in.
