Financial Aid?

Reading Princeton Review, it looks like Colgate gives pretty fantastic financial aid. Can anyone confirm or deny this? It states the average GRANT is around $24,000-$28,000, depending on the year of the Princeton Review you read. Of course this would vary from student to student, but I think I'm pretty "average" economically (middle class), and would be AMAZED to get this much no-strings-attached aid.

I come from a low income family but my financial aid was great and that was one of the primary reasons I attended. I had everything covered including my books. Even my middle class friends said that their financial was good and that the fin aid they received at Colgate was far better than the fin aid they received from other top colleges. Colgate's fin aid is superb and it can probably be beaten by only a few colleges in the nation. HTH.

colgate gives financial aid based on need only. because the overwhelmingly vast majority of colgate students come from affluent and wealthy households, most have no stated need - thus, no aid. of those that recieve aid, the figures are high. know this, if you have a need for aid and you get in, the financial aid department will take good care of you. Its just that most have no need for the $$ and this inflates their figures.

Is colgate more likely to give need-based aid to someone whom they really want to come to the school than someone who just barely got in, even if they are in the same financial situation?

no. colgate accepts purely on need-based terms. so if they accept you, they will look at the money that you need and take it from there. two people with the same financial needs will not get different financial aid packages. one of them, if they are not as strong of a student in the first place, just might not get in. but once your in, your needs are met.
