common app short answer too short?

The short answer, which is about EC activities only allows you to have 150 words. Would it be alright to write a more in depth essay containing that EC activity?

Well, it asks for only 150 words. I wouldn't go too far over the word limit. What you can do is speak about an EC that is important to you in the 150 word essay. For the BIG essay, you can speak of the 'indepth EC' that you are referring to.
