Asian Admission Results thread??

What do you think?

Should we make one? I am really curious to find out how Asians (especially Asian males) fare in top college admissions.

May I ask you this question? From a purely utility aspect, what do you hope to learn from respondents? What will the aggregate info tell you? A collection of a dozen anecdotes, from those willing to take time to reply will tell you..... what?

Here's what I can tell you: most denizens of college confidential are pretty serious about college choices and likely to be above average students, Asian or not. Therefore, they'll likely have offers from good if not great schools. And? So what about this is news?

Plus, most HS seniors (with college admissions in hand) aren't trawling this site nowadays. It's a quiet time.

But since I've given you this advice, I'll give you data too:

Me: Chinese American, immigrant blue collar parents. Accepted at all schools applied (2 ivies and 4 top engineering programs). Matriculated and graduated from one of the Ivies. My SAT was about the 30th percentile for my alma mater, rank about 10th or 12th. Rigorous schedule, avg ECs but leadership roles in predominantly black inner city HS.

1. African Americans and Hispanics have their own threads. What is wrong with having Asian results thread?
2. The thread might help future Asian applicants to top colleges.
3. People need to see the uphill battle that Asians are facing in college admissions.

BTW, WHEN did you apply those colleges? Last year? 2 years ago?

I think this would be a great idea. Asians have a huge disadvantage and it'd just be nice to see how fellow students are faring in their admissions. It'd also give us an opportunity to ask one another about specific details in admissions.

I support this. This will help future Asian (male) applicants shoot for more feasible schools, spend less app fee, and most importantly, suffer less heartache.

Why especially male Asian applicants? Female Asian applicants are just as, if not more, disadvantaged in the admissions process, unless they're applying to engineering schools.

Actually, previous analyses of CC results threads have been consistent with the idea that Asians and whites are treated approximately equally in college admissions, with deviations from that indicating that whites are advantaged over Asians occurring as often as deviations from that indicating that Asians are advantaged over whites.

If an Asians-specific results thread were to discourage an Asian from applying when the general results thread did not do so, it would not be to the thread's credit.

It does not have to be Asian male only thread.

"Actually, previous analyses of CC results threads have been consistent with the idea that Asians and whites are treated approximately equally in college admissions"

I found this extremely hard to believe. Not in my HS.

It would be convenient.

When I go through results threads, I usually check the ethnicity before reading the rest of the post - asian or not. Otherwise, the stats aren't contextually valid for me. Putting up a results thread for asians only will automatically filter those stats out.

And if I want a broader view of admissions, I can go back to results threads that contain all ethnicities.
