Does this make a difference at all???

I'm just wondering, but does being a minority (asian) who moved here (in 2nd grade) help at all? I always thought either way there was a lot of competition (esp for asians) but it seems like some ppl interpret it as an advantage and mention is as their hook/catch? (im first generation asian-american). Any input would be appreciated!

I would look at this thread:
Race on Application

There has been alot of debate over this. Some people think it will help, but some are of the opinion that it will force you to compete with the rest of the asian applicants. I'd check out the thread, and decide for yourself.

It is unlikely to help you at any colleges except at colleges that have a hard time getting Asian or immigrant applicants. That means that possibly it would help you at a place like U Wisconsin or Grinnell, but it won't help you at a place like HPYSMIT.

I also suggest not writing your essay about how you have been inspired by your parents' immigrant experience. That is something that so many Asian and African immigrants focus on in their applications that it's now as cliche an essay topic as "My grandparent's death" or "My big game."
