Supplemental materials

So I am trying to figure out what, if anything, I should submit as a supplemental material. Here are a few of things I've been thinking of. Which one do you guys think is best?

A recording of my piano playing (I've been taking private lessons for 9 years and am pretty good, but not prodigal by any means. Pieces I've recently played include Gershwin's third piano concerto, Rachmoninoff's polichinelle, and Debussy's the sunken cathedral)

OR

A chunk of a prominent local radio talk show episode that I hosted about teenagers leaving the church they grew up with. (I came up with the topic, wrote the interview questions, hosted the show, etc.)

OR

An additional letter of Rec from the teacher of the program which gave me the above opportunity (she would write me a very good letter)

OR

A small part of the screenplay for a film that I am writing

so I have no credentials for what I'm saying but from what I have READ and what I have heard in advice columns on college admissions websites and personally from Quest/GM Scholars is that you shouldn't submit supplemental materials unless it reveals something about you that the rest of your application won't.

I think it really depends on the rest of your application, but I would most likely go with the additional letter of rec. Again, I don't have authority on this subject matter but I actually find the talk show thing really interesting! And also, I know TONS of people who've played piano for like 10+ years and if you're not looking to major in music I don't know if that's the best thing to go with.

Best of luck!

Take the piano playing out, unless you're applying for music major. If you're not a real big time pianist, there WILL be people who play better than you and even write their own pieces. As the guy above said, something that's not present in the application BUT something that's not too out of place sounds good. You should figure that out yourself since we have no idea about your whole app.
