Rising senior here.
I'm working on a manuscript of a novel, and it's truly my pride and joy. I'm very interested in sending a writing supplement to some colleges that invite supplementary materials of our interests and abilities to be sent. Writing is my strongest academic point by far, but I'm wondering about the content that I can include.
Would it be okay if I sent a synopsis and a chapter or two of a manuscript I'm working on as a writing sample for the college admissions process so they could check out my writing?
I'm also an art junkie, but I mostly draw comics. Would samples of those also be appropriate to show?
I want to put my best foot forward. I think a bit of my manuscript and synopsis reflects my best and most well-thought out work rather than a scrappy short story whipped up that I'd show off for the sake of flashy language. I want to show development, hard-earned unique concepts, and make the adcoms a little hungry for more if they decide to pick up what I send to them.
The aforementioned things are my strongest interests and points in terms of confidence. I really do feel the need to express myself to admissions as a dedicated, strong writer who hopes to end up in the bookstores within a few years.
What do you guys think? Would it be okay to submit those writing materials and/or appropriate comic art? Thank you so much.
