Question about UC application

On the UC application, are extracurriculars and volunteer work/community service listed separately or together? ...Most of my ECs are volunteer work, and if they're listed separately then I'll have like no ECs... :/

For any application they are the same thing, including the UC app.

How is volunteer work not an extracurricular? The definition of extracurricular is anything outside of classwork.

There are 3 categories for activities on the UC App, grouped as follows:

-Extracurricular

-Community Service

-Work Experience (Paid)

You get 5 spots for each. Long-term hobbies could count as an EC as well and there is some flexibility in where you list service-oriented clubs, like Red Cross, Key, Leo, etc.

@sunbite Thank you so much, that's exactly what I wanted to know. So do you think it's better to list school service clubs under community service or extracurricular?

Welcome! It depends on what else you have on your resume. If you don't have a lot of outside of school volunteering, then yes you can list school service clubs. You should balance out the categories as much as possible.

Oops just the first post again. In OP's case, probably better to list school service clubs under extracurricular activities.

Alright
It seems like a lot of my extracurriculars could go into either one. I am also Secretary of a club that volunteers for Special Olympics. I think I will probably put that one in the extracurricular section since I have a leadership position. Thanks for your help
