Do I have to retake classes with D's to even be eligible for UC admission?

I got a D in in my first and second semester in Honors geometry. However I am taking trig/precal which will be my 4th year of math in high school. My counselor said that passing trig covers all previous levels of math, but I'm not sure if he was talking about UC's or graduation requirements. I also got a D second semester of Honors chem but will take AP Chem this year to cover that. I also want to know whether it's just a good idea to retake second semester honors chem instead of taking AP chem. Since i'm retaking it in my senior year how will colleges even know about that?

Have you read the university website? The part about admissions guidelines? Use that as your source.

Also, given the difficulty you've had, would you consider taking regular classes in math and chemistry? Honors and AP may not be right for you.

I did end up taking regular algebra ii and I did much better. But in chem I was just really lazy, and didn't realize the magnitude of my errors. I think I can do AP Chem.

Go here for the ways you can satisfy certain course requirements for qualifying for UC admission if you do not have C or better in those courses:
University of California - A-G courses

Note even if you use one of the alternatives to meet the a-g requirements, those D grades will still be used to calculate GPA for UCs to determine if you have minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum UC score when you combine GPA with SAT or ACT scores.

See http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publicat...isonmatrix.pdf . Note the sections on the second page with respect to validation and repeated courses.

With your work habits, why would you want to attend a major research University?

Okay so the site says I have to have completed 11 of the 15 a-g requirements with a C or better before my senior year, correct? I have 3 years of English, 3 years of science (one counts as my a-g elective), 2 years of math, 2 years of history, and 3 years of foreign language.. So I think I covered it to be even eligible for admission.
