Yeah, you need something special that makes you stand out if you want to get into HYPS. You are average, if not below average, for an Asian American applying to HYPS. What gets you into those schools is something you have that most other people don't have. I would add one or two more safeties to the list. If you don't want to write more essays, I would just add another one or two UC schools. You could also apply to private school safeties (for a chance at scholarships) if money is a concern.
