What is considered an EC?

I know about athletics, school clubs, work, volunteering, but would job shadowing count as an extracurricular? Could I put that down on the common app and would it look impressive? What other things would be counted as an EC? Thank you in advance

Job shadowing...
ehh.. I would maybe put it under work experience.. unless you only did this for a day

An EC can be anything you do outside of school

Just put down the ECs and the work experience. If the "job-shadowing" is something that you are passionate about and have invested a lot of time in - write an optional essay about it. Best of luck!

If you shadowed for a week or two, it's no more an EC, than taking a vacation for a week or two in a foreign country is 'study abroad.' If you invested your summer shadowing, helped out in some way, and developed relationships with the people you were working with, then yes, I'd include it as a major investment of your time and energy.
