The other two are: Who's Who in American High Schools and the National Honor Roll. They either try to sell you something or make money off of selling mailing lists to advertisers. It looks naive to put any of these on an application.

There was a thread on this in the High School Life: National Society of High School Scholars
Might help to clarify what it is and stuff.
I think all of us have agreed that it was a scam though.

no one cares what YOU have agreed on. You're not the admissions comittee; they're the important ones.

| I wouldn't worry about it, a top student in my HS put it on her app and I don't think it negatively affected her (then again I wasn't the Adcom reading her app)

I got "The National Society of High School Scholars" in the mail today. It says, " It is that commitment that paves the way for membership in the Society and the continuation of your education at one of the best universities in the nation." ----One of the best universities? What is this supposed to mean? How did I get nominated? By who?

| They just use mailing lists, possibly from what you filled out on the PSAT or somewhere else. They are not trying to identify top people, just people.

| Most of the time, juniors seem to get the "nominations" (IMO), and so the colleges don't have the info yet. Also, I don't think colleges would get involved in it.

| I didn't say that I thought it was a scam. I only took the general opinion in that thread. Either way, it doesn't hurt to put it on the application.
