My interview with Georgetown was horrible, the interviewer was in her late 50's and was a lawyer in downtown Atlanta, she hardly talked and didn't ask me very many questions. I was in a cold sweat for most of it.
Duke interview was awesome, I interviewed with a 2004 grad who was really down to earth and understanding, ended up spending about an hour and a half at starbucks.

I did an interview at the Collegiate Fellows Weekend at Mercer and it was pretty informal. They asked about majors, extracurriculars, what you'd become involved in on campus, favorite subject, and for questions. For my honors college interview at Albion, they asked a lot of the same stuff and the guy ended up talking more than I did!

| Visits/Interveiws this week. Help!
I am taking my son up to visit 4 schools this Mon and Tues. These will be his first college visits and I think I am more nervous then he is. Anyone have any advice, ideas, guidelines that you want to share it would be greatly appreciated. Not sure of what they will ask him or what he should ask in return? We are visiting Geneseo, RIT, Syracuse, & Oswego. Thanks for reading.

A few off-the-topic questions for everyone. Your suggestion or advice will be appreciated.
1. My child took all 4 required high school math classes (honors geometry, honors algebra ¾, AP pre-calc, AP calculus BC) with AP calculus BC taken in sophomore year. He is not planning to take more math until college.
Mistake? Will colleges look at this as negative?
2. He also took SAT tests in sophomore year. He is not planning to retake them.
SAT I (verbal 800, math 760, writing 700), SAT II MATH 1 (760), SAT II MATH 2 (730), SAT II US HIST (750).
Mistake? Should he retake to improve scores?
He is considering top colleges like Ivies.

naw i mean he can't take any more math at high school, maybe do ap stat next year or take a higher math class at local community college or find some way to use his math skill volunteering... colleges wont look at this as a negative as long as he got good grades (which i'm assuming he did) in those classes

What if there was a college interview report section- like the College visits one- so people could read about other people's interviews at specific colleges? just a thought.

| interview questions
I am interviewing for the first time tomorrrow.
It will be an on-campus interview and I would like to know what they do with the parents!! Do they come into the interview with me, or stay outside??

You can introduce your parents, but I would send them off to have a cup of coffee or something. Don't have them hang around /participate inthe interview.

About the resume: They will hold onto it in most cases, but they would rather hear you talk about your experiences. If they wanted a list, they can look at your application, this is the time to find out about you personally.
About parents: We tend to introduce ourselves to the parents, then take just the student back for the interview. We will get the parents after the interview and see if they have questions. This is not their time to "vouch" for their kid, but just to ask questions. And they can ask the same questions, it is not a big deal. And we never remark about the parents when doing the evaluation.
