Is it true that ELC-status increases your chances of getting into UC's?

yes, guarantees that you will get into one. And greatly increases chances at all of them/

Only guarantees one and not necessarily the more selective. Generally you will get into UCR or UCI no problem but not necessarily UCLA or UC Berkeley or UCSB....there are a lot of posts on this. Go to the UC form and search ELC.

I do not know if it was because I was ELC or not, but I received letters from UC Davis and Irvine that guaranteed acceptance if I applied.

Also, being ELC does guarantee acceptance to one UC, but it may not even be one to which you apply.

I got an acceptance to UCSB because of ELC, so yeah, it helps. But if you only apply to say, Cal, it doesn't do much.
