Haverford? Beats Me!

This is bizarre. I received a letter from Haverford today saying that I have been waitlisted! So what, you say? Well---I never completed my application! I submitted the common app and I had my SATs, grades, and teacher recs sent--but I did not do the supplemental app or the essays because I decided at the last minute that I did not wish to apply, and. I don't recall sending in an app fee.

Can anyone tell me what may have happened here?

Thanks

HUH? If I knew why a school would respond to half an app with a waitlist letter I wouldn't waste time on the board.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?

Maybe it's Haverford's way of saying "we would like to have you as a student and you are still welcome to complete your application".

Maybe they messed up. It happens. Admissions offices do sometimes send a letter to someone they didn't intend to.

Small LACs do this for attractive applicants who do not withdraw their incomplete applications. I know of similar cases at Carleton and others. It's a compliment and they are keeping the door open for you.

Something similar happened to me with Georgetown. I sent in the first part of my app but then decided that I didn't really want to go their so I should just save myself the agony of an interview (with a classmate's alumnus father, yikes!) and not finish the application. Apparently, they were supposed to send the name of the interviewer soon after receiving the first part of the app but they didn't send my mine until early March (***?). They also sent me several letters way after the application deadline asking me to finish my application. I think they finally got the message and buggered off. Crazy colleges...

Oh my God. That's so weird. The exact same thing happened to me!!! I have to say, I would've rather have been rejected cause then I would've known that it was cause I didn't complete the application. I mean, I only sent in the Common App and a School report--no supplement, no Midyear, I don't even remember if I sent in letters of recommendation. Now I kinda feel like if I can't even be accepted at Haverford, then what am I even considering acceptances at Ivies? I don't know. It's really weird for me though.

don't worry about it if you do not want to go there.

exactly

Tomminer--that's what's worrying me. was it what I sent or what I DID NOT send that they are responding to? I guess we'll find out tomorrow and in the next few days.

There is a lesson here. If you send a lot of info to a school you don't want to apply to, kindly inform them that you won't be applying, especially at small LACs where they may very well spend a chunk of time evaluating your application.
