Some thoughts about the schools with 'inactive wait-lists'
In the case of Dartmouth, what if they lose a large number to HYP and some of its peer schools (Duke, Penn, etc)? Would this mean that Dartmouth could suddenly decide to use the waitlist?
This is almost comical.
So many schools took the risk of having these 'scary low acceptance rates' and admissions staffs throughout the country are now working overtime!
I predicted early on that yield was going to plummet for so many top schools due to the loss of early admissions of Harvard and Princeton.
Some like Duke and Columbia are preparing early by accepting a large number off the waitlist, who knows? Maybe Duke will have another 1700+ person class, hopefully RLHS solves their problems by then.. we would be able to boast about having a 'higher yield than last year'. You know what, it may not be a bad strategy.
Some like UVA can survive because it is an elite state school, if I lived in Virginia, I would have likely gone to UVA myself.
