I'd like to know what blindkite brought up as well.

If I took a couple of community college classes over the summer, I'd put them under the "other college or university credit" section right? But it tells you to have an official transcript sent from the college. Um...I don't think I even HAVE a transcript from the community college :P

Btw: How do you do that quote thing where it puts the quote in a box?

usually increases your chacnes, since it shows committment and you are binded to go, but the amount of benefit varies from school to school

OK, for musical instruments. I play in several different orchestras and have been part of several different programs in the past. Should I make "Flute" the activity and list all the orchestras I'm part of/awards/competitions/past programs
"Position Held, Honors Won, or Letters Earned"? Would the Average time spent include rehearsal + individual practice time then? OR should it be separated into separate activities under "Activity"?

If I have a name that sounds like an asian name but don't fill in the optional race part, are colleges still gonna find out whether I'm asian or not and treat me as an asian student?

Tennis is my main EC, like practically my only legit one since it takes up my life. I'm a little confused about how to portray this though with the check boxes.

I put the varsity tennis thing in no problem, but this only covers the actual school tennis season, which is a very small part of my tennis playing. I also play on 2 different club teams and train every day after school and play tournaments every weekend. Should i mention the club teams on other lines? how would i do this anyway, just say that they are varsity sports or other sports? or should i just say that i play varsity tennis for like 40 weeks instead of the 10 to cover the club teams?

also, every summer for the past 4 years i have trained in florida at a prestigious tennis training facility.. this is a huge time commitment so should i take up one of my EC lines with it?

sorry about all the questions but i don't really want to include a resume because it would look mad lame with just a couple of lines of tennis stuff on it and not much else

bethyy: go to the short answer section. The first box is:
In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).

It seems that is where you should put your tennis info

betty.. wite something meangful. also.. be careful about your estimates because if it sounds too far off the bat then they may think you lied about it, which woudl be a shame.. I think those other teams would go in the ec box adn the summer program woudl go in the summer section

isn't the summer section only for like classes taken over the summer? the place i go to is technically a school, but during summer sessions we're not required to take classes or anything

My son and I were getting a bit frustrated by the common ap. I suppose for some people al the fields fit well, but for him, it is not, and I started reading this thread for some guidance.

Finally, we realized we were forgetting about the supliments. My son is doing ea at Caltech (and MIT, but that doesnt matter - they do not use the common ap). After he fills out the common app AND the suppliment, he will them make sure all his info is well presented, and make any necessary adjustments. If he has to apply to schools for regular action, he will fill out their suppliments and then make adjustments. The only thing you cannot change after submitting to one school is the essay (I wonder why?)

So, look at the suppliments (not all are available), and then see.

Sorry if this has already been asked (I only checked back a few pages), but if you played a JV sport (as well as club/rec league) in 9th and 10th grade and then played Varsity for 11th and 12th grade, would you list these separately (9-10 under non-Varsity, 11-12 under Varsity) or should you just list the Varsity and add in the extra info area that you also played JV and thus kept up the sport for four years?
