What all counts as personal activities? Would travel or extensive reading count?

I think I FINALLY get it. You only use the condensed "CommonApp" that appears like an application if you are going to print it out, right?

Otherwise, you enter a whole bunch of information in the sections after you log in, and you submit all of that information together and it becomes your application. Is that right?

If i took a summer course, how would I show that? I know I need to put it under summer schools, but all they ask is the school you went to (which is the same as my school I normally go to on a regular school day).

yes upsilamba i would say so. Don't be so reserved. The more aspects about yourself you give, the better.

edit: How are you guys filling in the common app?? I'm just filling everything in on the site. Is anyone filling it out on adobe? Cause I can't type anything into it.

Also, I forgot about AP test scores. Would that go in academc honors or additional info?

"In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities" Does it have to be in an essay format or can it be more like a list? How about in this format. "President of X club. Duties included: organizing, planning and carrying out specific activities. Selected to speak to over 3000 people in the region." Incomplete sentences so you can fit more in. I'm not really sure what kind of response they're looking for. ??? please help

I tried vaccuum packaging my involment in 1 extracurricular in that 150 word space. I cant get it under 178 and for an essay it sounds like crap. You can't have a beginning a middle and end with supporting statements in 150 words. Its just not possible.

"Involvement in my Church’s Youth Program has been very important to me. I have been President and 2nd counselor in my Young Women’s Program. I planned weekly recreational and service activities for the girls in my area. Because of this program I have learned how to rock climb, lead music, cliff rappel, conduct meetings, canoe, and so much more. In 2005 I received the Young Women’s Personal Progress award. This honor is roughly equivalent to an Eagle Scout. On a larger scope, I was chosen as Assistant Ward Chorister for our congregation. I also give a speech to this congregation of 500 people yearly. As a Stake Youth Committee Representative Chairwoman for the cities of Overton, Logandale, Moapa, and Glendale, I planned, carried out, and often directed monthly recreational activities for all the youth in that area. Last spring I was the only person under the age of 40 selected to speak at Stake General Conference. I spoke to several thousand people and was live broadcast to other buildings in the area." You will notice crappy transitions, poor format and hardly a basic list of my involvement in that ec. Grrrr..... R u sure this thing has to be essay format? thats 172 words btw and cut so dry it can't be well written because there isn't enough room for transitions.

ye i can see how it would be hard to fit everything in 150 words...just do your best. I'm sure going over a little won't matter

Trishaylnn_08: Some advice. Don't simply tell the readers this EC is important to you, but instead show them. Instead of listing awards or events you have done (and ultimately repeating yourself), talk about what this EC means to you. Has it changed you in a way?
