I am a Key Club District Treasurer, meaning that I was elected to handle finances (somewhat- adults still do a lot of technical work) for our district or approximately 35,000 members+.

As proud and honored as I am to have this opportunity, I still wonder if the HYP would really care that much about this. There are 33 Districts, and 30 or so other District Treasurers worldwide. Also, it is only 3rd in rank for a District, after Governor and Secretary.

If it matter, I was the first District Executive elected as a sophomore (to serve a term in junior year) in about a decade. Because of our size, it is traditionally very difficult for anyone but seniors to win district-wide elections.

Would this be remotely considered a "hook" or anything of serious note. I don't want to seem snidely modest or anything, it's just that I know Ivy Leagues are very demanding and may see this as just one of many similar things.

A hook is more a characteristic of one's life or a set of circumstances in one's life typically that becomes a huge theme around which you build at least part of your application. E.g.: "I was raised by wolves until I was 12 and then I was recruited into a prestigious high school because of my sharp teeth." What you wrote: this is just an EC, a good EC mind you, but not a hook.

You might be able to play it out as a hook, but it's an EC straight up and not a HOOK.

District Treasurer? It is a very good EC, and if you show truly how you are NOT just a position holder and actually did major things w/ it then it can be a very good EC, but realize this;

It is NOT A HOOK.

There are HUNDREDS, if not a THOUSAND Key Club District Officers nationwide. Even being President of your State's Key Club is NOT a hook, since there are simply so many Key Club national-officers. For Key Club, personally, only once you get up to the International Trustee or International President level is it a 'hook'. (The tradition for Key Club usually is that the International President goes to Princeton, and for good reason, obviously. The recent Key Club international president, Grant Lin, scored 36 on his ACT...>_<).

But don't let that discourage you - its still 'noteworthy', and is good enough of an ec for the ivy league. I personally know any key club office requires a TON of work with all the constant paperwork and such, and I'm sure admission offices know so as well.
