| How do you think appealing these decisions apply when financial aid is important. I wish my D could say that if they reconsider, no matter what, she would accept, but unfortunately the money aspect is a big consideration. She has some very good offers from other schools, but is still not truly convinced of the right choice and is obviously still considering the one she got wait-listed to. |

| they were actually from 3 teachers and one counselor. and then im having a professor that im taking a class with writing another one, and i was pondering the idea of having my advisor at teh college im taking courses at write one becuase, whehter i deserve it or not, he makes me sound like god
i just think 6 recs (including counselor) is way too much, even if it was november since they read the last 3. |

| After reading your "resume" in your initial post, the title of a song (or it is a movie?) "I"m Dancing as Fast as I can" popped into my head. I have a daughter in 7th grade and I would feel like an abusive parent if I tried to get her to do everything you did.
In any event, I wish you luck. Can you relax yet? |

| haha thank you... i always come home from work at 11:30 at night and my mom will talk about how she's so tired from her day at work, and i go, "oh really? well i went to school today, then did student council at lunch, had some more classes, tutored after school, went to practice, left and went straight to work, where i stood on my feet for six hours. i think i'm tired." and my boss hates scheduling me around all my activities.
i think i just need things to keep me busy because if i don't have something organized to do, i'll sit around and watch tv and do nothing
anyway, homeschooldad, amazing post. that was a really clever aspect i wouldn't have thought of.
kcbmom, the finaid part is important for me, too. even if i do end up getting that lucky phone call from washu and getting accepted, i'm not sure how much money they'll have left over for me. that might impact my decision. actually, it will definitely impact my decision. compared to paying almost nothing at other places... not so attractive.
oh, and i got into boston college today! |

| inspiration trackie youre truly an inspiration!!! im almost certain youre gonna get in haha. #7 in our class was waitlisted at washu but gained acceptance into MIT and UChicago! while some ppl around #30 and #40 got in.
i can def attest to how you feel about washu and tulane. my first choice is brown, and i truly am in total love with that school haha. i just got into grinnell and theyre being quite generous with financial aid BUT im still waiting for the 31st @ 5 o clock =]. just like you said "all i have to do is believe", thats exactly how i feel with brown. im more mediocre than you it seems in terms of grades lol- ACT 27 but ive got a pretty decent list of ec's and well respected awards id say (eagle scout, 1st place in natl competition, all that yadda yaddo whoopla) AND im a minority which may/may not help me. however im pretty sure the school knows i wanna go..i was very blessed in that i got to meet the president (of brown) when she was here giving a lecture! she's also from houston too which is pretty amazing! after meeting her my dad said that i should follow up by writing her an actual letter in order to leave a lasting impression. not only did she reply to my letter she said she'd passed it on to the dean of admissions (something i soooo wasnt expecting lmao) and to this day she remembers me!!! i visited last week and now i know that brown is absolutely that perfect place for me. so, all it takes it belief and things'll start going your way- no negative thoughts whatsoever.
keep us posted and i wish you only the best of luck. keep believing

| Trackie, I have been reading your posts and wish you the best in attending Washington U. I'm sure that you'll be receiving good news soon.
My son just got accepted at BC yesterday also and he's previously been accepted at NC-Chapel Hill, Geneseo and the U of Rochester. He's waiting on Notre Dame, Washington and Lee, Tufts and Cornell. Unlike you, he doesn't have a clear cut favorite so he needs to make a decision soon.
We're also in Rochester (my son attends McQuaid), so that's another reason to pull for you. Good luck! |

| DSL1990, are the kids really brilliant at BC? i got into BC's honors program though waitlisted at washu, with nearly identical credentials as trackie. so i was thinking, while i wait for washu to realize how much they actually do want me to come, could you tell me more about BC? i should learn more about the school, since i might very well attend it in the fall. |

| yay for rochestarians! i do love my city.. and i know a few people at mcquaid! i'm sure your son will be happy wherever he goes - geneseo was sooo beautiful today as i drove down second street, alllll of the branches from the big trees were bent over the road and it was completely white everywhere. gorgeous. and of course, the u of r and bc, both with quality academics. good luck to him, and to your family in the decision process!
saxophonium.. that is amazing about the letter! that is the kind of thing they really love - personal contact that shows that you actually reflected on their ideas after they left. well done!
i'm definitely considering bc, dsl... it really depends on what kinds of financial aid i get at each school. we'll see. i think washu and bc are both the types of schools where kids care about their grades, giving back to the community, but also having fun. boston is such a great city! so full of life and of history. although i am not a fan of how everyone has communal bathrooms freshman year at bc, it was the first college i ever visited, and it has a special place in my heart for that.
nobody can beat washu, though. my favorite part is the under-the-road-tunnel thinger where all the groups paint the walls about the events!
nhsharvard, the waitlist is mainly used when most of the accepted students have replied either yes or no to the college in question. after the college determines whether or not they need more kids to fill the incoming freshman class, they'll go to the waitlist and pick out kids they think will "round out" the class - if they need more poli sci majors, they'll look there on the waitlist. same if they need more guys, or more people from the midwest, or more internationals. they also tend to pick people off the waitlist that don't need a lot of aid because at that point they've used up a lot of their aid. am i right on this? feel free to correct me, anyone. i think that's the majority of the waitlist stuff. |

| trackie, i love the tunnel-grafitti thing too! I think its called the underpass
also, for the waitlist, you said colleges needed a certain amount of majors. what if you put undecided? |

| right, duh. underpass. i think i just forgot there was actually a word for it.
i'm not sure what they'll do if you're undecided, but i think everything i said was just in general - it's not like they won't take you off the waitlist if you're undecided |

| trackie10x- I love that you are letting them know how much you want it. I'm sorry now all you can do is wait until they go to the waitlist in May. My son was waitlisted at Duke, his first choice and has decided to stick it out. Whatever you do, don't think with the emotional reaction of "do I want to go to a place that didn't immediately pick me". Admissions is only a tiny aspect of it; if you get in at any time the school wants you there. They all just have so many qualified candidates. Hang in there! |

| thank you, ncdewey! my mom went to duke! she loved being at a school that had such great academics and great school spirit. your son should definitely stick it out - if he loves it as much as i love washu, he will definitely realize the truth of the advice you gave me. let him know that there are so many ways you can put yourself at the top of the waitlist! |
