The before application checklist

I'm not sure if this topic has been addressed already or not, but if it has then I can't find it anywhere.

What I'm doing right now is creating a side by side comparison for all the schools I will be applying to so I can have all my work laid out before me in an organized grid. I'm looking at the many different things many colleges require as well as what important info I'll need to know, and I'm wondering if the experts at CC could help me fill out my list. Feel free to copy my list too if you'd like

For each school:

1. When is the application due?

2. Does it use the common app?

3. Is there a supplement required to the common app?

4. Does it offer Early Action/Decision/Rolling admissions?

5. Does it require SAT/ACT, and by what test dates?

6. Does it require SAT Subject Tests, and in what subjects?

7. How many letters of recommendation are required (in addition to common app), and from teachers in what subject?

8. Do I apply for Financial Aid separately, and if so by what date?

9. What's the application fee? Can I get it waived?

10. How do I submit additional materials?

11. How many additional essays to the common app will they ask for?

12. What can I do to show interest in the school?

13. How does credit by exam/ advanced standing work?

14. Interview? Required, not considered or optional?

15. Have I submitted my HS transcript yet?

16. Am I prepared academically?

17. When will I be notified of their decision?

Can anyone think of anything else I'll need to find out concerning each school?

looks good, just letting you know when you get on to commonapp and select your schools it has most of the info in the top half of your list laid out for you under certain tabs. That helped me a lot and I was glad to see it.

I'd ask #16 first. If the answer is "no", the rest of the questions are irrelevant.

How about Tuition, fees, and Room & Board, Financial aid if any, and then net actual cost?

make sure you note how far away it is, and the classes that you like the most. Some colleges don't offer the classes you want.
