3 APs... and a lot of other crap... can i take 2 APs instead?

Hey guys,

I think this is my first post, I dont really remember. So, i've got a problem. I am going to be a junior this year and I was wanted to know the best way to manage my AP classes and other classes. I am worried about the classes I take because I play tennis everyday for 3 hrs+ and work on my speech oratory at least 1 1/2hrs + so basically I get home at 6 or 7 15 everyday. I am not the most brilliant person like the other people who can come home at 9 from work and own all of their APs lol.

Right now I signed up for:

ap english
ap ushistory
ap environmental science (BS I know but to get my gpa high i guess)
precalculus
speechdebate
tennis

My question is: Can I drop an AP or change one of my APs to a nonAP and still remain competitive? I am looking to be a business major.

I heard that colleges dont really care about APUSH but know that it gives an intense workload so that it "brings" the work ethic out of a kid... but do i really have to take it? I also heard that since everyones taking it it doesnt show that I'm brilliant or anything..

ECs: Looking to be top 20 in NorCal for 16s and 18s (very confident, am top 30 now) and play college tennis...
oratory champion\finalist at several local and national events...
teach kids tennis...
other community work...

EDIT: OH and the schools I am thinking about are UCBerkeley, UCLA, UCSD, NYU, USC, UPenn, Cornell, Yale, and maybe some other private schools. not sure yet though.

Wow, you seem to be way better than me at tennis...but than I haven't played for very long and I barely play. Haha.

I think you can handle 3 AP's...but how'd you do with classes in 10th/9th grade? that might be a slight indicator.

You don't have to take AP us history, if you don't like history, but from what i know u have to take a US history course to graduate.

In the end, these kinds of questions are quite meaningless...everyone has a different pace, although personally speaking 3 AP's don't seem to be really bad on average...but it's not about the # of AP's so 2 instead of 3 won't really hurt you.

I think you can drop an AP since you have so much other stuff going on. I didn't take APUSH junior year. (Actually, I only took 1 AP junior year, with three honor classes). I still got into some pretty good schools.

Ah thank you guys so much for your information. So in 9th grade, everything was pretty standard and our school didn't offer any advanced or honors classes at all. In 10th grade, i took accelerated history and english, bio honors, and alg2w/ trig. It was basically the heaviest courseload for a person that didnt take any summer school classes.

In the end i got 4 A-s and 1 B. both semesters.. LOL, talk about luck and clutch.

If my school offered more honors I would definitely take them over APs... But still, what APs do you guys recommend me to take for colleges to consider me? I keep hearing that APES is basically a joke to colleges and that I should drop it. But I am not sure still .. ahh!

Even though you come home around 7 or 8 youll still only be taking one other class that isnt an ap class. Most likely you wont have hw from your ap classes everyday(well mine last year didnt. I had hw due once a week in AP Euro and Eng Lang, but it was a lot of work). If you dont have hw everyday than most likely youll have a lot of days with only hw in one or 2 classes so it really shouldnt be that much work
