| 2010 valedictorian @ IL HS In top 50 in state
My son got accepted @ harvard, yale, MIT, duke as Ivies n Ivy-like schools..he didn't apply to stanford or princeton columbia etc...he picked YALE n is loving it..he visited harvard yale n mit for the prefrosh overnites n without doing that he prbly would have picked harvard as u can take some limited classes @ mit when @ harvard......take ur sleeping bag n ur mom or dad n stay at ur top 2 or 3 choices..it costs a few extra thousand or two...but since ur going to pay $50k plus per year its not so much to be sure u pick where u feel u will be happiest n fit in n study what ur passion is....

MIT EA this year. I think it was her top choice, so she's attending/not applying elsewhere.

My school has had only 4 graduating classes so far. Half have gone to UGA, the other two to Emory. And we have a combo breaker for my class! She's going to GA Tech.
That's generally the case for all of the schools in my county. Yawn.

2010:
Val: Brown
Sal: Washington University in St. Louis or William & Mary (I'm not sure who our Sal was last year...it's between two guys and I'm not sure which it was...)
2011
Val: Rutgers
Sal: Rutgers
Val was rejected from 3 of the 5 she applied to, wait listed at Amherst and accepted full ride to Rutgers..It's weird. She has a 4.49 GPA (weighted, with the top score being 4.5. Only reason she doesn't have a 4.5 is because our gym classes don't give A+'s -___-) and a 2310 on her SATs.
Sal gets full ride at Rutgers b/c his father is a professor there.

Just going to list the most selective schools. Any hooks in parentheses.
Val (1/394) - Boston College (legacy)
Other kid (single digit number/394) - Yale (athletic recruit)
Me (24/394) - Notre Dame (fist gen; looking elsewhere, though)

My son is the Valedictorian of his class this year and he got accepted to Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Tufts, Carnegie Mellon, Stony Brook and U. of Rochester. He hasn't made a decision yet on which one to accept. Best aid packages from Princeton, Dartmouth and Cornell so they are at the top of the list.

Val - MIT, Caltech, WL at HYP
Sal - Harvard (mainly bc of theater, which takes up 40 hours a week per month. dedication right there.)
Val from another school I'm friends with - HYPS, Brown, Pomona, Swarthmore, etc. Basically everywhere he applied. (was a top scorer for Academic Decathlon)
