Did they cut admissions this year?

I noticed that a lot of my friends who are pretty smart with solid stats didn't get into places like UCSB and UCD this year. They are smarter and have better stats than most of the people who went to those schools last year from my high school.

So did they cut admissions or something? Or I am just imagining things?

Yes they did cut admission according to a January LA Times article:

UCI-550 students
UCSD-520
UCR-435
UCD-385
UCSC-335
UCSB-275
UCLA-35
UCB+80
UCM+155

Transfer admissions increased for most UC's.
