Just out of curiousity, is it a good gpa?I know a 3.8+ would be better. Also, what about a 3.5? Is that considered average?

That's BS. Don't listen to Droyd.

A 3.7 GPA is above average at most schools. It's below average for top schools.

Droyd is either an idiot or is being sarcastic. It's well above average for regular school, and around average for top schools. Remember that average, at top schools, includes legacies, donations, and recruited athletes.

3.7 unweighted is a solid grade.

no ifs, buts, ands about it.

Seriously, stop disseminating false information. A 3.7 GPA is PERFECTLY FINE at the majority of colleges.

The above advice only applies for top 20 schools, which is what CC tends to be skewed towards. However, the OP didn't indicate a specific school and we should then look at it in the context of all college-bound students. And among that group, a 3.7 is above average.

if you have a 3.7 with a very rigourous courseload and have high enough SAT scores to demonstrate your intelligence, you will be competitive as anyone, and that's all you can ask for.

3.7 is a good GPA. Don't listen to the people who say is below average! I know people who had lower GPA's and SAT's scores. You'll be able to get into a good college with that GPA! =]

Okay, I'll specify what type of schools. I'm looking at Top 20 schools like Carnegie Mellon, Duke, Penn, Princeton, UCLA, UCB, Stanford, the U of MN.

again, it depends on your courseload. were the courses you get Bs in easy and is it that you just slacked off? Or did you take tougher courses in subjects you weren't as good at and had to struggle a bit?

CMU, Duke, UMN, id say it's no big deal at all. Princeton, UCLA, UCB, and Stanford, you're as competitive as anyone else, but you'd need to especially prove you've got something to offer (marginally more so than an applicant with top marks). you haven't done yourself any disservice at all.

My friend got into UCLA and UCB with a 3.7 and 1150 SAT's. I say don't worry. She never played sports and had barely any EC's. So whatcha think about that?

^^^^ 1150? This is before the highest score was 2400 right?

    3.7/4.0 is pretty decent actually

    isnt it A-/B+?

    3.7 is good, a 3.3 is good. Though a 3.0 is okay.

No, she got a 1150 on a 2400 scale. Yep! I got a 1560 on a 2400 scale and got into UC Berkeley and UCLA for Fall 2009!
