Is it bad if I don't fill out the 'Additional Information' essay? I mean my gut tells me its a bad idea to not write it but i just dont know what I would say that already isn't in my application and I don't want to appear redundant. What do you guys think?

I'm applying (though I'm a moron, so I'm still working on my Essay#1 and my biographical essay), but I can't help but feel that my chances are pretty slim. I think my dad makes about 80k a year, but there are ten kids in our family. The questions seem tailored to address issues that I don't feel I have. I've had to give up plenty of things, but my family is intact and I am able to do well in school with few home-life associated difficulties. I have every intention of completing the application to the best of my ability, but does anyone have an idea of whether I should expect anything out of it?

Hey, at the very worst, at least you'll have THREE polished essays to choose from when it comes to applying to apps, a few free applications to various QB partner colleges (even if you aren't a finalist!) and a greater understanding of yourself and what you bring to the table, and how to better hone your application when it comes around to doing the colleges.
I remember seeing about 5-6 schools that still waive the app fee even if you're a non-finalist. That's a damn good deal.

Does anyone know how to "describe and list the approximate values and mortages" of your home?

knome,
I'm in a bit if a different situation, but I felt the same way. I come from a low-income family, but I have a loving mother and not a bad support system at all. We struggle, but I've never been hungry, I have nice clothes (maybe not a whole closet full...), and I even have an internet connection. I think that QuestBridge is still applicable. I mean, it's worth a shot. It's not costing you anything and the time consuming aspects of QuestBridge, the essays and the information you fill out (which gives even you a better picture of your situation) are nothing that can't be recycled to the Common Application.

@ collegefall2010: I would probably expect something simple like: Residence, value $X, mortgage $X.

Am I doomed if my transcripts/scores will be faxed on Wednesday Sep 30th, sometime around noon pacific time?
I've been dealing with the most stressful red tape trying to get some transcript mistakes fixed. It's been taking forever and I will probably be faxing that stuff at the last minute.
I understand that faxes take 48 hours to process. Am I screwed? Totally stressing right now

I don't know about QuestBridge, but I know and have heard that some colleges will cut students some slack if THEY get their information in on time but the schools/teachers skim the deadline.

I don't know if QuestBridge will do that, but their processing my teachers' faxes have been anything but reliable. Even 48 hours after the fax, no change on My Locker.

Why does my Mom's income appear as "HOUSEHOLD INCOME" and my dad's income as "NONCUSTODIAL"?

Also, if my mom did not work in 2008 b/c of health issues and whatnot, does she still have to submit tax forms? Our financial source was my dad who works in Canada and wires money over.

@ powerbomb: On your Parent/Guardian Information page, under the "do you have contact with this parent?" section, did you choose "no?"

Man, it's totally Questbridge stress time at our house. It's a lot of work for only one school -- my daughter is interested in Parsons, because she's an artist.
