Bubbe: Bear in mind -- and I think a few folks do get confused about this -- you do NOT have to apply to 8 schools if you decide to try the match program. Eight is simply the maximum. Many people only choose one or two for match.

yeah I have a quick question. When you apply to their partner school through questbridge you don't have to pay for the application fee right? Does this still apply when you use the questbridge application for regular decisions if you did not go into the final round of the college match?

"... final round..."? I think you are referring to being named a QB Finalist. I believe only QB Finalists get their apps sent out for free. I mean, you're either a finalist or you're simply a person applying to QB. If they sent out apps for free for anyone who applied to QB, that would mean that a millionaire could apply to QB and have all of his or her apps sent out to the partner colleges for free.

QuestBridge National College Match - Regular Decision Table

This table shows which partner colleges grant fee waivers for non-finalists and which do not. Most do not.

Hello
I'm a QuestBridge finalist (not an early match though), and have went through the arduous process last year. Do not do Questbridge on the hopes of getting matched early on a full scholarship. I mean, certainly its possible, its just very difficult. The reason I did questbridge was for the RD boost. However, be warned, although many of the QB schools will require you to do the QB application in addition to the school's supplement. You really are doing twice the work.

I do think that QB is beneficial (for RD round at least) because even if you have a shot of getting into the school anyway, colleges are always looking to expand their economic diversity, and they want to accept more QB kids who have low income than non QB kids who are low income just so they can say ten percent of their incoming class or so were QB finalists, making the college looking more socially diverse.
I guess it paid off for me, though its possible I would've got into my QB schools w/o QB. With QB i got into Pomona, Amherst and Northwestern.
P.S- Don't do QB with Emory- Emory's admissions office is retarded, no joke.

Yes, it is possible, and it is difficult. But please don't discourage future applicants. I can assure you that ALL 264 match recipients last year, and the 204 the year before, were not EXPECTING to get matched. They were simply putting forth their best application and hoping for the best. I see it as no different than applying for many elite schools. You may be "qualified" in every way, but not everybody gets the good news.

There is NO disadvantage to applying to the match round as long as you are 100% sure you will be happy with the school if you are fortunate to get matched. Of course this doesn't apply to the non-binding schools. Do your homework, and make sure the school is one that fits you and you can see yourself at for the next four years. I can only speak for my D, but there was more than one that she would have been happy at, she just was fortunate to get matched to her first choice.

I would add it is extremely important to apply to a financial safety school in addition to applying to QB schools.

How many of these 264 or so Questbridge Match recipients were Chinese, Korean, or Indian? (as opposed to Vietnamese, Filipino)

And what were their stats? Is the applicant pool less competitive than that of a regular round, since QB applicants are mostly low-income, without as much opportunities to succeed?

I don't think that breakdown is available, at least I have never seen it.

Hello everyone! I recently got the College Prep Scholarship and am excited to apply for the National College Match. For those who have applied for the CPS award, please do not hesitate to use the QuestBridge forums. Just to be clear: We first fill out the QB app, then if we are finalists those apps get forwarded along with each college's common app + respective supplementary? The colleges will be reading the essays from both the QB app and the common app? And from the looks of it seems that QB uses the same questions from the common app, so aren't the colleges in essence only reading our QB essays?

o wait so you don't have to send the supplementary such as SAT scores or subject tests until you are accepted as a finalist?
