hey guys. I was just wondering for the past students that got matched, how low income were you? If its too personal you dont have to answer. I was just wondering what they meant by low income. For me, my parents make around 35,000 but both my parents have college degrees although I am a first in my family to attend college in the states.
I guess what I really want to know is if questbridge is for kids like me who are "low income" or if its more meant for kids that grow up in rough neighborhoods? Like I am poor but I still live in a nice neighborhood and am fortunate enough to attend a public magnet school. thanks for the help

You can always send in any new scores directly to the schools.

Just so you know, even if you are first to attend college in the us, you are NOT counted as first generation to attend college. Ppl commonly think it's a hook; it's not. By not letting you change anything, that's exactly what it sounds like. Hopefully they changed their system, but if it's like last year, it does not let you update or change any of your info in your app, which is why I decided not to use it for RD as I wanted to update my info.

| I'm not sure what what info you would need to update. D sent in a late ACT score directly to the schools she applied to, and she was matched. It would be no different if you sent your apps in RD, then got a score from a test taken in December that was not back until after your submission. Same would apply to any major award, or anything else you think would provide a major boost to your application. Simply send/fax whatever it is to the schools, and they will add it to your file.
QB provides many benefits such as fee waivers, and most importantly the ability to provide more information about yourself through the additional essays.

| Some comments to help
Heard at the Yale Conference...............
Up to $60,000 is considered low income
It is a 'help' if neither of your parents went to college (thus you are 'first' generation)- but it will not 'disqualify' you from a becoming a Questbridge National Match Finalist.
Again, it is a 'help' if you live and 'shine out' in a 'deprived' neighborhood, w/ poor schools - but your 'magnet' school and nice neighborhood should not 'disqualify' you from becoming a Questbridge National Match Finalist
A very small percentage (last year only 260 students) of Questbridge National Match Finalists actually get 'matched' to their choice (listed) college in the early round.
You do however, have a good chance to get accepted to a Questbridge Partner School in the Regular Decision Round.
ie: If you are not matched in the early round, your Questbridge application is automatically put into the Regular Decision Round for each school. Because you were a Questbridge National Match Finalist, your Questbridge application will be put into a separate 'pile' to be 'looked at', and you also may request your Questbridge application be forwarded to colleges other than Questbridge Partner schools.
This will help your application.

| ikillzu, here is the profile for last year's match recipients. You will see your family income falls into the largest catagory of match recipients.
No, you don't need to grow up in a rough neighborhood. My D's HS was in the richest county in our state, and is one of the top 20 richest counties in the US.

Re-reading my notes - I posted misinformation...........
Sorry - my bad.........
Please Note Corrections:
If you are not matched in the 'early round' - Only Questbridge Partner Schools will accept your Questbridge Application forwarded for Regular Decision.
(Be sure to check each school if you have to REQUEST your application be forwarded.)
For Schools that are not Questbridge Partner schools - you have to fill out their specific applications.
All the information can be found on the Questbridge site - there is a LOT of reading to be sure of all the details......
I keep reading and re-reading and always find something new.

| Thank you GetToCollege. Everything you need to know about the program is available at Questbridge.org. All applicants, please take the time to read through everything, it will not only help you, but reassure you that the program will be beneficial to you in the end.
My D was one who said "I'll never win anything like that," and I told her that somebody does win, why not you? She was matched to her number one choice, but if she was not, I am confident that her QB app would have been key to her acceptances during the RD process.

I want to point out that the average SAT score for matched students was 1361, i.e, about 680 on each section. I think that's pretty awesome.

1361 refers to only CR and M.
I'm a bit confused. The common app just came out today; do I have to do that application as well, or do I wait until the questbridge application comes out and finish that one instead?

I'm going to jump in and second the advice to thoroughly read the QB site. You will find the info you need such as whether the schools you are interested in require the Comm App or not. Some do, some don't. College Match Program: Requirements
Also, remember not to just apply to QB schools. Make sure you have a back-up plan for a safety school you can afford. That could be a community college, an in-state school, a school where you can receive great need-based FA or merit money, etc.

You only have to complete the Questbridge application.
Thank you GA2012MOM for giving me some hope. I live in one of the richest neighborhoods in the country and I thought it would lower my chances of getting accepted. But I still do think that the students who live in poor counties do get a slight advantage.
Also, this might help some people: http://www.questbridge.org/cmp/how_it_works.html |

driscol, check out the link I just posted. Some QB schools require you to complete the Common App as well.
