Letter of recommendation request by email or in person?

I am a little nervous to ask a high school teacher for a college recommendation. I think it would be easier to do this by email, but I am not sure if teachers like this or not. I would think that they prefer person to person verbal request? Also, seeing me in person might job their memory of me. Plese tell which do you think they prefer?

I think it's respectful to ask in person. While it may seem scary, most teachers are used to it. Email is impersonal, and kind of seems like a cop-out. I'm a pretty shy person, but I got over it. Just think positively, and ask! It shouldn't be a big deal at all.
