I just have a housing question.

Hey,
im enrolled to start college this winter quarter i qualified for the pell grant and it covered my intuition but it didn't leave anything left to help with paying for books or housing. I'm married and my husband and i have very little income anyone know of grants or scholarships to help with this? i'd hate to have to drop out before i even begin due to being unable to pay for my schooling.
thanks!

Hi,

You could take out a student loan for some costs, but I don't recommend borrowing much.

Perhaps one or both of you need to improve your income status. Where are you living now? What's paying for that? I don't mean to sound harsh, but two married people need to provide for their housing needs whether one is in college or not.

If you're planning on moving to go to this school, perhaps that isn't the best idea. Perhaps it would be better for you to go to a nearby school, so you can continue to live where you presently live. As for paying for books, again, I think you and your spouse need to find a way to increase your income.

Most scholarships are given to incoming freshman during the fall quarter.

Good luck.

If a Pell Grant covers a woman's intuition, I for one think it's a good thing.

On a serious note, there is a whole sub-forum for financial aid questions. I would go there and share what state you are in as there are some very knowledgeable people about state-level awards.

Is your husband joining you in campus-related housing? If not, I'm wondering why you aren't living at home while going to school. Paying for two residences is too much on low income not to mention the married living apart aspect to it all.

As a suggestion, do not post your actual name as this is the Internet. Good luck!
