12th Grade Grades

What is the process by which 12th grade grades are taken into account by colleges?

I have taken many classes senior year of which I wish to learn, but they are rather difficult as they were never my strong point. I'm purely taking them for self-educational purposes. It's likely (though not set in stone) that I will have several B's and possibly even a C the first two quarters in some of the classes. I'm just being realistic. How will this affect me?

Thanks for any responses.

negatively. If you feel this way already, you might want to either, A) bust your ass in those hard classes, or B) opt out of them early (aka. right NOW) into a more manageable schedule. But by all means don't take it EASY senior year.

Come on, this is your education we're talking about here. Don't EVER take an easier class to protect your GPA. Think of all the time spent in a class that you didn't want to take! The purpose of high school is to learn, not to get into the most selective college possible. I'm amazed that you (nothing personal) would think about shortchanging yourself and not taking advantages of your opportunities like this. Please, do yourself a favor, studywhat you're interested in, try hard (but don't be grade-whore) and go to a college that accepts you for who you really are.

I'm taking the hard classes that interest me senior year and sticking with them. The previous poster was the one who suggested I switch out. I just wish to know how colleges look at the first and second semester grades. For example, does it get figured in the GPA or do the colleges just see it randomly, and if so, how? I'm not switching out. NO WAY. I just want to know how this 12th grade process works.

I think you misread my post. I'm doing the complete opposite of what you think I am. I'm taking the classes for self interest this year, regardless of what grade I might get.

Good. It's late here in KY, and I'm really glad I misread you. Sorry, of course. Mea culpa.

I think colleges will see your 1st semester grades on your mid-year report before they make a decision, so it may affect your GPA and class rank, but hopefully they will recognize the difficulty of your schedule.

and they will also see 2nd semester grades, and if you fail or something catastrophic happens to your grades, they can rescind your acceptance.
