Merit Aid notification?

My D (OOS) was accepted to Honors College weeks ago. We have received nothing regarding any offer of merit aid. Have others been awarded this type of aid already? This will make a big difference in her decision to attend C of C.

We have not received anything yet, either.

This is a make-it or break-it item for me too... I called the financial aid office the other day, and was informed that CofC does not award merit aid until May (even for those accepted to the Honors College in early December, like me). Unfortunately, the only other college I'm seriously considering requires a response by May 1st. I was shocked because most colleges offer financial aid and scholarship packages with or soon after your acceptance... seems lousy to me. Btw, I'm in-state, but I think it makes no difference...

This may or may not be relevent...2 years ago my daughter was awarded a substantial merit scholarship at CofC and it was awarded in February. They may have changed their policy or you may have just spoken to someone who was misinformed ( ? )
Good luck whichever is the case.

I received my merit aid in late December I think, but I don't know why I got it so early...it's a Presidential Scholarship (I'm getting $7000 a year) and I'm accepted into the honors college. I got a letter in the mail and it was also sent to my CofC email address. A friend of mine at school also got into Honors and called financial aid and they said notification didn't come until at least February. Has anyone else gotten it at all? Haha maybe I got mine by mistake..

I don't think you got yours by mistake. Unless CofC wants to play jokes on people.

Like scarolina89, I got accepted into the honors college early and received a letter for the same scholarship today.

My daughter applied early action and received an invitation to the Honor's college several weeks after her acceptance, and a letter in december offering $16,000 a year in merit aid.

What time frame are we talking about here? For example, how many weeks was it from the time you sent in your EA application in to the time you heard you were accepted? Then, how many weeks from that did you hear about Honors College acceptance? The, how many weeks from that did you hear about merit aid? Thank you.

Congratulations to those that have heard about merit aid!

I believe the early action deadline was either October 15 or November 1. I believe it was about four weeks until she was notified online that she had been accepted, then probably another three weeks or so that she received letters inviting her into the Honor's College and offering a scholarship. I'd say two months from submitting the application to hearing about everything.

I called CofC yesterday and FinAid said they had handed out ALL merit aid for 2008. Daughter didn't receive any, but still feels great about being admitted to Honors College. It's going to be a stretch affording this since we are out of state.
