Other Schools Similar to CofC??

Our DD (H.S. Jr) really likes CofC. WE really like CofC. The only problem . . . we live in Charleston! Our DD would like to get out of her comfort zone and outside our own backyard to go to college. Anyone suggest other schools that are similar to CofC in another city? She likes the city environment. The culture and arts that are available. Is not into the big football thing. Suggestions? SE preferred. Thanks!

We are from the Northeast and my son is trying to decide between CofC and University of Tampa. We love Charleston!! Lucky for you to live there! Univeristy of Tampa sits on the edge of the city with tons of activities going on all the time. We like the size of the school (approx. 5,000), the business program, location and availibility of an airport close by. The school has a close connection to the city of Tampa for jobs and internships. The OOS percentage is about 70% so you don't get the already formed Florida high school cliques entering college together.

wow.
Two years ago we visited these same schools and our view was that Tulane and U of Miami had the best programs. C of C was a impressive school also, and had a more southern feel to it then U of Miami and Tulane because the later two has a student body from very far away, with a strong northeast presence. U of Tampa was our safety school, and it seems to be improving, but it clearly is not at the level of the other 3. But I understand its getting better and the business school is reasonably good. May want to find out why the freshman retention rate was not that high. (ps - my daughter ultimately chose Tulane for several reasons - the differentiator was the ability to get very involved in the rebirth of NOLA after Katrina. We also looked at U of Florida. Good luck.

I currently attend CofC. It is a great time. You will get a better education probably at Tulane- very underrated. U Florida is overrated (I know this because one of my good friends goes there). Don't know much about miami.
anyways, thats my 2 cents

Pretty tough to get into as an OOS student, but William and Mary is also very similiar to CofC as far as being a state funded, liberal arts college. Small student body, very quaint campus, and although Williamsburg doesn't hold a candle to Charleston (imho), it is a beautiful setting for a college. I also thought of Tulane when I read your post. I must say, Lukester, I envy where you live!

What about Queens University of Charlotte? My daughter is attending in the fall. Charlotte is a great city and there is a large percentage of out of state students. It is a small school with lots to offer.

Queens looks like a great choice. In particular, our DD is interested in nursing. Her only critique ref Queens was the small size. We may still try to take a look. Thanks.
