I'm not so sure I understand your question but they usually get shipped out way ahead of time.
Mine was supposed to take weeks, and I think it only took about a week.

Another shipping question. I just finished customizing my 1530 and the preliminary ship date says 8/5. To be safe, should I just put the shipping address as a friend's since I'll be out of the country?

It sounds like Dell overestimates its shipping time, but I don't want my laptop to arrive at my doorstep with no one to sign for it for a month.

I would say that the prelim shipping dates are almost always overestimates.
But you never know how long it will take to get to your house until they actually do ship it and give you the DHL order look up code.

My problem is that my school doesn't open its mail room until August 11th. If the laptop comes earlier than that, no one will be able to sign for it. However, I did select the 9-ion battery, which is the reason my laptop is being delayed until the estimated date (Aug. 19th).

Just submitted my order! I can't wait to play with my shiny new 1530, but I might have to wait until I come back to the States at the end of August if it doesn't arrive before my trip.

I just had my laptop sent to a friend's house.

x90, do you have to have it sent to your school? If no one is there to sign for it, it can be a real headache to get it after the initial delivery attempt. Also, I don't know about you, but I didn't feel comfortable with the thought of my very expensive laptop sitting in some mail room.

Well, after the shipping date (19th), it would take 3 - 5 days to arrive at my school; I'll be there on the 23rd. I really hope it ships then. If it's earlier, maybe they'd be able to re-route it, but then again, I live in NY. *sigh*

Maybe you should call them and work something out, or have them clarify the exact shipping date.

I called them just now, and in light of my situation, they rerouted the package to my house with free next day shipping. I'm impressed.

What specs did you guys get? I had a little too much fun with the Build Your Own System tool. Although the rest of the Dell website is a pain to navigate.

Didn't get Blu-ray though. Too pricey.

I ordered my m1530 on 6/6 and the prelim was 7/2. It was delayed until 7/17 and at the time of this message, it's still in production. So to answer your question, no, the prelim shipping date is not always accurate.

You should call Dell just in case like x90 did, it sounds like they're pretty understanding with the shipping.
