White Macbook or 13" Macbook Pro?

I'm starting my freshman year in college this year, and am exactly a week away from buying my new laptop. I have decided for sure on a mac, but i dont know whether to get the white macbook or the 13" MBP. Im also an active musician who does a lot of recording and mixing and such, and i also tutor part time. This laptop needs to last me roughly 4 years-until i get my enlistment bonus for joining the Marines.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Most of the specs are similar. With the Pro you get longer battery run time, a slightly sharper screen, a bigger touchpad with more capability, a camera card slot, and of course, the aluminum unibody. It is a tough call, but if it were me, I'd spring for the extra bucks for the Pro.

I would get the Pro, just because i prefer the looks of it a lot more than the white mac book.

THe aluminum MacBook is worth the money. The white one is fine, but then most computers are fine for what a user needs.

When I purchased mine a few years back, the person working there suggested to get the regular white one. I went along with it, but I wish I hadn't. I am interested in both music and photography, and the Pro supposedly does a much better job in those areas. With an interest in music and the expectation of it functioning well, I would recommend the Pro.

...But really all Macs are good

Pro. Don't forget to sell your free iPod to get $200 more dollars on top of the $100 dollar student discount.

Definitely go for the pro. The white macbook is going to be axed pretty soon anyway, that much is obvious. My sister was buying a mac a month or so ago, and she was asking me which one to buy. Even though she is the definition of a casual user (web browsing, ichat, itunes, little else) I told her not even to consider the regular macbook.

Yes, a couple years ago, it made sense to buy the macbook because the lineup was very different. The pro computers had no 13-inch model and they started at $2000. Now, apple is obviously gearing up to eliminate the polycarbonate model laptop and replace it with something else (either a netbook or a tablet, depending on which rumor site you read). Who wants to buy a model that's maybe a month or two away from extinction?

if you have the money, get the pro - but the white macbook is still a fine choice. they've recently updated it and its really quite nice now. 6 months ago i would have said pro pro pro but now it just depends on your budget i'd suppose.
