Applecare- worth the money?

Im planning on buying a macbook pro 13' for my sister for her college gift. Im kinda low on budget and was wondering if applecare is really necessary. My sister is really bad with technology so maybe applecare would be a good thing just in case her macbook has problems but I'm still undecided. I would like some of your inputs. Thanks!

Applecare is worth the money, though not the money you pay through Apple. Do an eBay search for Applecare for the 13" MacBok Pro. It is $250 through Apple, I picked mine up for $120.

Its worth it!

We have had 3 Macs and all 3 had major problems, after the first experience we just get the apple care, but you have time till the original warranty runs out, so you can wait to buy it.

Doesn't the warranty that comes with the Mac last only 3 months? It's quite short.

A lot of credit cards will double your manufacturer warranty for free, as long as you buy it on the card - so you'd get a 2-year warranty, 1 year from apple and 1 year from the credit card company.
