What Computer Accessories do you Need?

What other things do you typically need besides the computer itself>?

Ethernet cable, power strip, router, mouse.....what else?

You likely won't need a router because your room anywhere should have a direct connection for you. There may also be wireless available and my experience is that schools often don't allow private routers because they can mess with the school's own wireless networks.

Most schools provide hard wire in the dorms. If you have a notebook, then a wireless router is nice to untether your laptop. If there is only one jack in the room, it saves the hassle of getting a hub/switch from the school to share the internet connection with your roommate.

If you have a laptop, consider a monitor/keyboard/mouse for your desk. I like the full size when I am working at a desk. Also don't forget a Security Lock - too easy for an opportunistic thief to pick up a laptop. Surge suppressor is nice, just in case. Wireless mouse is nice for when you are working in the Library. Docking station makes attaching/detaching really easy.

Desktop - battery backup. Even for just a few minutes for the momentary interruptions, and saving your files so you can shut down your computer.

Printer, scanner. External hard drive for backups.
