Where can a econ degree take me?

Tucker Max for those of you who know him, has a degree from the University of Chicago in Econ. I was reading his blog recently, and he said that it's one of the most profitable degreees in the US. I don't know though, what exactly is Econ and what are the pathways I can go with the degree. (Tucker went on to get a JD from Duke Law)

BTW for those of you who don't know who Tucker Max is..go to tuckermax.com, he is possibly the most brilliant man alive, although his material is highly offensive ect.

I think the Tucker Max's stories are funny [if probably a little trumped-up]...but one thing that always manages to surprise me is that a guy who apparently graduated from UChicago and Duke can be such a bad writer. Literally, most of the stories are along the lines of "first we went here. then we went here. then we were drunk so we went here." And in one of them he seriously says "I was as excited as a kid on christmas morning."

Although he's probably just keeping it simple to attract casual/non-readers.

Yes, I realize the irony in criticizing Tucker Max's writing style. So what.
