Leaving best friend

Ahh, I'm in a pickle.
My best friend/soul mate/life-partner and I have been together since kindergarten basically. We are completely inseperable.

My problem is that right now I'm looking at the Ivy League for college and I really want to go to the East Coast, and she is planning on staying close to home at UC Santa Cruz. So should I just leave or find a California college close to her?

If you really want to go to the east coast, go. I don't mean to sound harsh, because you are it a tough and sad position, but college is considered the start of a new life, and you shouldn't hold back on yourself because your friend is going with you.

Also, with internet, email, etc, it is pretty easy to stay very close, even across the country.

and you can visit each other on breaks.
it will be hard to leave your friend, but I think you should do it. I'm sure if you're really close friends you'll be able to stay in close contact.

I'm not going to lie, your friendship will most likely get weaker, but I'm still very good friends with my several of my friends from high school.

It'll be hard, but if you're actually soulmates like you say, you'll be fine.
Thank GOD for the internet...

Is this friend someone that you'll still be close friends with in 20 years? If so, then keep in touch online....if not, then still keep in touch and email and stuff but don't worry about it. Internet, phone, videochat, whatever there's a zillion ways to keep in touch.

Basically, we've planned out our entire lives together. (Yeah I know, we're ridiculously close.) And our plans always included going to the same college.

I wasn't that concerned earlier, except I was gone all summer and I missed her like crazy.

Yeah it really is easy to stay in touch these days, but I still can't decide

Seriously, (and again I don't mean to be harsh), leave. Eventually, at some part of your lives you will have to leave each other anyway. College is the start of a new life. Don't waste an opportunity to go to a great school just because someone else isn't going too.
