lil' wayne is definitely better than eminem, and i don't even like wayne that much.

regardless of how eminem is revered by suburban kids, he's easily one of the most overrated rappers of this generation.

Eminem has better lyrics can spit out ryhmes with a better rythmn, raps about things worth a purpose instead of Lollipops. he has nice flow, but there isn't any substance. listen to nas, lupe fiasco, common, talib kweli, jedi mindtricks, or some of the other guysp people have mentioned, and you will see that there is art in rap.

... and here we have exhibit a. that is such a ridiculous claim. most, if not all of Eminem's music is comprised of boring, angst-ridden garbage. oh, and just to refute that lyrical claim: jay-z and nas disagree. none of eminem's albums can touch albums like illmatic, reasonable doubt, god's son, the blueprint, etc. hell, you can even argue that some of the underground groups are more lyrically creative-- jedi mind tricks, talib kweli, mos def, immortal technique, mf doom and saigon come to mind.

Don't worry, these kids thinking Weezy's the best or better than some of the other rappers like Em, Dre, Lupe, Nas, etc don't even know or understand the game. They just haven't had enough exposure to rap, or think lyrics that simply are idiotic and nonsensical (99% of the time, Lil Wayne) are cool. Lol.

x90, I agree those rappers you listed are more lyrically creative, but you can't make a claim that Eminem's music is just garbage. Look at his numerous inspirational songs, some with D12, songs from his old albums, his freestyles -- not all are garbage.

Frankly, I think rap from the South is simply garbage, with the exception of Weezy and TI (though I really don't think of them as much to begin with). Listen to some real rap. Please. Numerous posters on this topic have suggested some 20-odd rappers that have more skills. Listen to them.

What an ignorant post. Vegas, do you have any idea what you're talking about? Have you heard any hip hop outside of the 5 songs they play on the radio? There are plenty of artists who discuss real issues, not the stereotypical ones you've mentioned. You obviously are just repeating what the mainstream media and your parents have told you. Try Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Talib Kweli, and Mos Def. Then come back to this thread and try to make the same generalizations. You won't be able to. It's fine if you don't care for a type of music, but to dismiss it with an elementary school pun is just ridiculous.

Mainstream music isn't what it used to be.

Warped tour just came into Jacksonville on Sunday and the whole place was dominated by teenagers who think they are punk. The decent bands there were not so popular, either.

Today, our music is dominated by some guy rapping repetitive bull ****, studio bands that play nothing but power chords and sing crappy lyrics, and pop stars who make way too much money.

Rap isn't my style, but there are rappers who definitely make good lyrics and rhythm.

Weezy is hot right now...none of these other mugs ya'll are naming are. If he's featured on someone else's song...it becomes a hit. There's a place for political rap but it's not mainstream...so out with everyone from Native Tongues, even the boys from Blackstar.

And why can't Eminem and Wayne be on the same level? They're both phenomenal rappers, Wayne just puts out more albums and is featured all the time. Southern rap is clubbin music...not meant to be lyrically great, but it's meant to be heard everywhere. If I want the best lyrics I'll pull out my old Gang Starr vinyls. Half ya'll are white kids that don't even know the definition of OPP, so shut your mouths when it comes to rap.
