I have an article for our resident trilingual IB student.

I can read ten pages of Cien años in forty-five minutes. I'm making progress.

This year, I did a huuuge stats project on a study within my school on a possible relationship between language and intelligence. That article would've been an excellent source if it was written like 7 months in advance.

Also, my ToK teacher loves Edge.

TMI.

I'm reading Crime and Punishment (I fully wrote Crime and Prejudice first, rofl) and it takes me really long too. I can read like 10-15 pages in an hour, and I can't really figure out why. My book has small-ish print, and it's ridiculously descriptive, so...

Have to or want to? It's very strange.

Happy Canada Day, America.

For some reason, Crime and Punishment took me forever as well. I got really distracted reading it, as the paragraphs were so long. And Cien años de soledad has even longer ones. I never knew that a three-page paragraph could exist, but this book taught me that it could. You'd think my problem would be that I have to keep looking up new words, but it really isn't. It's just that my mind wanders when I get halfway through every page. I suppose I shall have to try another Spanish book so I can judge this one.

Psh. Our Independence Day blows your Canada Day out of the water. That's to be taken literally, as we Americans have a penchant for blowing things up for this particular holiday.

It's part of my homework. I've read it before, though.

I'm headed to the capital/capitol tomorrow to see stuff blown up. Any requests you want me to pass along to the president?

Um. Something about gay marriage and abortion. And that I think I saw him in Transformers, but I'm not sure.

I saw Transformers today and there was a whole row of soldiers in uniform below me, and I wager approximately 3/4 of the theater was retired military. I wasn't expecting the movie to be so military-y. I thought it was funny and a little awkward. My dad said something about the actors holding the guns wrong, and it bothered me that they weren't wearing helmets. But still. It was awesome. And I wrote an awful lot about Transformers, jesus.

HOOAH. Tell the prez that too.

Will do, will do. I'll probably just be shouting it at the fence.

Watch Moon and Man on Wire. Now.

I made a common app account. It is not a pretty website, by any means. And UChicago's essay topics for this year are something of a crapshoot. "Why did (or didn't...) you get caught?" Okay.

Today I learned how to lyse cells for the purpose of protein extraction and quantification. It was fun.

If you read the UChicago thread on CC about those topics, you'd see a much different opinion. I don't like them as much as last year's, but apparently everyone else thinks they're genius.

The Common App website is meant to make you hate the admissions process with a passion. If it were pretty, that would defeat the purpose.

Today I wasted time by comparing Chicago weather to the weather in my town, and I have concluded that my friends' and relatives' claims of deplorable Chicago weather are basically unfounded, since it's pretty much the same weather we have here.

Haha. Hahahaha. Revenge.

I'm certainly not going to stop you from applying.

Really, I think the worst thing about the Common App is all the stupid supplements. Some of them *ahem* Princeton *ahem* rival the Common App itself in length. Then again, that makes you appreciate the schools with free applications online and no supplements.

I made a big oopsie in my vigorous bike ride today. Oop's, that is.

Princeton's supplement isn't out yet. And neither is Yale's. Damnit. Only Harvard and Chicago have released theirs, so far. Actually, some other schools probably have too, I just don't have them on my silly thing.

Question. Are the character limits in the common app essays limits you should keep in mind even for essays that are uploaded? Like, if the limit says 2000 characters, should I make sure my uploaded essay is less than that? As far as I can tell, it doesn't automatically check (I uploaded my final ToK essay, which is definitely well over 10,000 characters, and it didn't reject it).
