How many long essays are usually required per college? I know one goes with the common app, and I think some "supplements" ask for a second one, but are there ever any more than that? Because I already have an idea for two essays, one of which I'm really confident about.
Edit: Yeah, I've started talking about my college choices with my parents. I honestly couldn't afford to go to college in the States without a generous financial aid package. I mean, tuition and everything is 10x more per year than it is in Canada. That's basically why I'm really only applying to top colleges in the States, because they're the only ones who give financial aid to international students.
Also, something that sucks is that I'm sure I won't get as many scholarships as I could normally get because the IB is bringing down my average. Only by like 2-3% but it's still bringing it down.

Oh, and apply to any school you think you might want to go to. By the time March rolls around, you don't want to think about schools you wish you'd applied to. Oh Georgetown, where were you in my life?
Usually 1-2 longer essays, with some short ones mixed in. I mostly just tried to make the shorter ones funny, besides for my Common App EC essay, which was badass, if I say so myself.

Mine were all under 500 words. Some have specific requirements; others don't. My OSU one had to be under 400 words, and I know I had a few short answer types that were under 300 words. On the Common App essay, I think somewhere between 500 and 750 would be perfect.

I have three major ECs, with lots of minor ones, so I'm not sure about how I should package all of that.
Silly US. I hope you all realize that it takes 45 minutes to apply to any given college in Canada. Max.

I'm feeling more and more lost. But it's okay, I've survived the over half of the hardest school year of my life, and now I just have to plow through the rest.
But you'll be fine, Snoop.

If my theory is correct, you don't need to package yourself at all. I have completely unrelated ECs. On my apps I emphasized how I liked animation, econ, math, and baseball, and how I wasn't really a joiner/organizer/leader, that I preferred to read about things and just think. As cliche as it sounds, I just presented myself how I really am. In a couple of weeks you'll know if this was a brilliant or disastrous strategy.

Ahh. I'm so excited to find out where you and JB get accepted. And where you end up going.
Ridiculous.
When you both leave CC, it will be just Snoop and I unless some other paranoid juniors show up.

My Common App had little to do with my ECs. It was about the time I took a photo tour of my town. I mentioned my ECs in passing. You don't have to tell the college that you are a member of the French Literature Time Wasters Club. They can see that on your list of clubs.

Yak read my common app, I think, it was totally random.
I have some paranoid juniors I might send in the direction of this site, only cool ones though, and only after all traces of my existence here are gone.

The only acceptance (or, more likely, rejection) I'm waiting for is Princeton. I'm not really counting on an acceptance though, so it's in the back of my mind. I had four acceptances by January, which really helped in admissions stress. It did nothing, however, to relieve financial aid stress, which is still happening.

Haha. If only that club actually existed.
I'm pretty proud of my ECs. I have an important role in all of them, which is good. I just wish I hadn't stopped playing soccer as a freshman. Because I thought I didn't have any time then. Damnit.
I read a couple of your essays, Mike. So I'm guessing one of them was the common app one.
