Addicted to internet. HELP

I enjoy being on the computer and doing the internet, whatever the activity may be (emails, reading posts, etc.). I also check emails and forums repeatedly, even if I know the inbox will be empty. I enjoy doing this, but at the same time, I want to stop. After some time being separate from the internet, just the act of turning on the computer and going to the internet brings forth so much joy inside of me. When I'm separate from the internet, I feel insecure, as if a part of me is missing. How can you treat this addiction?

I kind of used to have a problem with that (and to a point, still do) but part of that was just trying to escape my life (which was pretty crappy as a child but now I feel happier than ever)...

What I found was that once I got my personal life in order, the desire goes away. There's an underlying reason for the addiction, find it, treat that, and see if the addiction dies on its own. If it doesn't, at least you've made your life better.

Not sure how to answer this, but whatever you do-- don't replace your Internet addiction with another addiction.

Yea, I have the same problem. I repeatedly check my email, facebook, forums, etc. I also look up random stuff, spend way to much time on random news/blog sites, etc.

I'm pretty sure (for me at least) it's a sign of having a mild case of OCD. Just think, do you have any other small tasks that you repeat, or things you obsess about? If so, you probably have some form of OCD.

I overcame my internet addiction by doing challenging math problems ever since I moved to college... (its more addicting than you think)

Time management. Designate certain times to go online and check everything you need to check, for example: 30 mins after school and 1 hour before bed. Also keep your self busy with something else, I suggest getting a new book or a new DVD season of some show

Easy!

That's easy! Just pull the plug!

Actually that can be a real problem. Try getting a life. If that doesn't work, just make sure you aren't wasting you cyber-time. Learn a skill, or contribute something useful to the world.
