Why do we have such a crap community here on CC?

Why is there no sense of community on the College Confidential forums?

Ooh yes, quite embarrassing indeed, especially for a troll who thinks he can talk trash in the CC CAFE with impunity.

All hail the great Ramocito Morales, as he attempts to CLEAN UP THE TRASH in the Cafe!

*salute*

ok seriously, you can start by mopping the floor... then if you behave yourself, you will be allowed to wipe the tables down and maybe even wash the windows...

Oh no I've been humiliated by you......

.....Or not.

Whether you like it or not you're a college student you donkey. Just because the subject you're studying isn't maths doesn't make you any cooler than me. What do you study, something like history or psychology.

Do you really think that the world gasps in awe of your coolness? No, they don't. At the end of the day we're both college students, and people don't differentiate between a maths student and a history/mickey mouse student.

If anything, they'd respect me more since I'm studying something which is actually useful. You're just wasting peoples time.

You know what, I'm actually finding this a bit tiring. You're a donkey, so maybe you might come in useful after all.

lol Ramo, you were hired to CLEAN UP the trash in the Cafe, not add more to it.

You're fired.

CC has gotten too big. With over 300,000 registered posters (though not all active), it's much, much larger than it used to be. There were about 20,000 registered posters when I was going through the application process, and the old forum had much fewer even than that.

CC has been getting more impersonal and less quirky for some time now.

...and far less civilized, even from half a year ago, it seems. This thread is a perfect example.

The nature of this board is what I think kills the community. To be frank, the majority of people come in here for no other reason than their own personal gain; they want chancing, information on colleges, help on financial aid, etc. Once they've gotten what they wanted (or realized they wouldn't), then they have no reason to stick around. You see a lot of threads around here where the person doesn't even bother with a "thank you."

Secondly, the board is impersonal and people are rude. Because this is a college site, people are constantly bickering and putting each other down. People here are competitive (therefore many have some sort of superiority complex); we've seen all the threads about how the community here is "unrealistic." There's no sense of community here. Either people just get their information and leave or people just go around fighting with each other.

Any forum is going to have it's share of problems, but I think we may have some crippling ones here. Forums are meant to discuss and share ideas; this one is more like "ask a question, receive an answer, and leave." We get a new wave of posters every year when incoming college students are in the middle of the application process; the problem with this is that the same things are then discussed with these students and the forum gets very repetitive. You generally see the same threads coming up over and over every year (and don't even get me started about the people with social issues in the "College Life" forum).

I can't even offer any suggestions either, because the last thing this forum needs is strictness and totalitarian-moderation.

You haven't even been a member for half a year

And I guess you think that your 39 posts make a difference... Well, who knows? Maybe they were 39 really special ones.
