no no no. that's not the case. I was told that both your parents have to have attended, unless you're muggleborn and have defeated some form of evil. Personally, I killed bellatrix lestrange, and invented the timeturner, got all O's on EVERYTHING, graduated top .001% of my class at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, and even slept with the head of admissions, and they still didn't accept me.
